Hactl x Free Periods HK – Be My Buddy Buddy

In celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, Free Periods HK, with full support from our lead sponsor Hactl, is collaborating with One Bite Design Studio to organize an exhibition and workshop series called “Be My Buddy Buddy”.

The exhibition features five themes and a total of twenty-eight exhibits featuring different facts about menstruation. Through interactive activities, participants can dispel myths about menstruation and become better Buddies to people around them who menstruate, regardless of their gender identity.

The five themes include “Global”, “Public Space”, “Workplace”, “Family” and “Self”. In addition to physiological knowledge and concepts about menstruation, we will also share information about global phenomena such as menstrual poverty and gender inequality. By linking up personal experiences with social conditions, we hope to build a menstruation-friendly society together.

We will also launch the newly designed “Buddy Buddy Conversation Cards” alongside the exhibition. The cards feature different scenarios and roles, which allow everybody to talk about menstruation with ease, and break the taboo surrounding it.

Apart from the exhibition, our lead sponsor Hactl will further support Free Periods HK’s menstrual education activities in the second half of the year. Hactl will generously donate 500 sets of “Buddy Buddy Gift Boxes” containing menstrual products and related gifts to girls in need. Buddies who come to visit our exhibition are invited to write encouraging messages or menstrual stories to share with the beneficiaries.

This day was chosen to celebrate menstruation because the average length of menstruation is 5 days, and the average menstrual cycle is 28 days. This set of numbers is also used as the backbone of the exhibition.
